73rd Regiment O.V.I.

ANDREW HOLDEN, son of John and Julia Holden, was born in King's Co., Ireland May 2, 1826. Enlisted Oct. 11, 1861 in Co. F, 73rd O.V.I.  Has served through with the regiment, and in all its engagements but two, without wounds, sickness or capture. Was detached with the regimental wagon train during about a month before his discharge. Re-enlisted with the regiment at Lookout Valley, Jan. 1, 1865, and was discharged with it at Camp Dennison, July 26, 1865, a veteran.

EDWARD WELCH was born in Ireland. Went out in Co. F, 73rd O.V.I. in Oct. 1861. Was during most of the time on detached duty as teamster. At the battle of Winchester, he received a minie ball in the left temple, penetrating the skull. He tried to load and fire once more after receiving the wound, but the blood filled his eyes, blinding him. Was at the same time wounded in the fore-arm, mangling it badly; and in the heel slightly. After six months in hospital during which time the surgeons were unable to remove the ball from his head, he returned to the regiment, where it was soon after extracted. He re-enlisted with the regiment and died shortly afterward in Warren Tp. while at home on veteran furlough.
